McCain snubs Letterman for Couric

Why lie about it, John?

Outright reversal of truth from the GOP

Friday, September 12th, 2008 | Politics | No Comments

Look, both sides spin - even the Democrats (shocker!) - to make things sound worse than they are. Such as the Obama ad saying McCain voted to “decrease” school funding when the bill was actually to not increase funding - though with inflation some argue it’s the same as a cut.

Both sides do that kind of thing - cast a negative spin on things that aren’t necessarily negative, though they’re not exactly positive either.

That said, McCain’s new ad outright LIES about Obama.

In summary - from FactCheck.org:

  • The ad says “they said she was doing ‘what she was told.’ ” But the Obama adviser who’s being quoted didn’t accuse Palin of meekly following orders. What he actually said is that she made a false claim about Obama’s legislative record and added, “maybe that’s what she was told.”

  • It says “they lashed out at Sarah Palin; dismissed her as ‘good looking,’ ” But “they” didn’t lash out at all. Obama – who is the one pictured – didn’t say anything like that. The only one the McCain campaign quotes is Obama’s running mate, Biden, and he actually offered the remark as a compliment. Biden said the “obvious” difference between Palin and himself is “she’s good looking.”

  • The ad says Obama was “disrespectful” when he accused Palin of “lying” about her record. But the truth is Palin’s claim to have “said no” to the “bridge to nowhere” is indeed a dubious one, as we and many have pointed out.

It’s not that I’m only going to post from Fact Check, but this is just egregious.

Justify this to me, Republicans. You can’t.

I’m not a fan of the spin from either side, but outright lies and distortion seems to be the tactic of the GOP lately. One more reason I’m an Independent.

U.S. Military Spending vs. The World

U.S. military spending – Dept. of Defense plus nuclear weapons (in $billions) – is equal to the military spending of the next 15 countries combined.

These numbers show military expenditures for each country. Some say that U.S. military spending will naturally be higher because it has the highest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of any country. The United States accounts for 47 percent of the world’s total military spending, however the U.S.’s share of the world’s GDP is about 21 percent. Also note that of the top 15 countries shown, at least 12 are considered allies of the U.S. The U.S. outspends Iran and North Korea by a ratio of 72 to one.

Source: Center for Arms Control and Non-Proliferation, http://old.armscontrolcenter.org/archives/002279.php; our graph uses a more comparable figure of $515 from actual 2006 U.S. military spending

And if that doesn’t make you feel safe, according to the 2009 budget, adding together the budget of Defense, Homeland Security and War on Terror, you get around 23% of the TOTAL budget.

    In contrast, Education spending?  1.93%.

So to sum up - we may not be smarter, but we can sure lay the smack down!

It’s not all bleeding heart liberal stuff around here. This pic is NOT Sarah Palin. It’s a Photoshop that’s going around the ‘Net.

Kinda hot, but maybe that’s because the original was a 22-yr old. (tee hee)

    Lipstick on a Pig

    Wednesday, September 10th, 2008 | Politics | No Comments

The phrase, uttered by Obama in a recent speech regarding McCains claim of “change”, have some in the GOP up in arms. Taking it as a slight to Palin, because she is “the only one in the campaign that wears lipstick”.

Can we get dumber? The GOP rep,  Jane Smith’s statement is actually a sexist statement, but we’ll ignore that.

Thanks: Every News Outlet Everywhere including this one

    And this one

And should you think I’m being biased, here’s a John McCain quote about Hillary’s health plan from last October. He used the same phrase. Does that make him ALSO sexist or a hypocrite, considering his camp called for an apology from Obama:

“I think they put some lipstick on a pig,” he said, “but it’s still a pig.”

McCain’s people sound desperate to use ANYTHING to attack Obama.
